The MAC Selena collection has just launched, and it seems like the collection is extremely popular. MAC Cosmetics sent me two of the products from this limited edition collection: the eyeshadow in No Me Queda Mas and the lipstick in Como La Flor. I fell in love with these products and I wanted to share my thoughts with you.
The first product I’m about to review is the MAC Selena Eyeshadow in No Me Queda Mas. All products in the MAC Selena collection have a beautiful bright lilac packaging. I absolutely love this color and I think it’s very flattering. Also, on the transparent part of the lid, ‘Selena’ is written in the same kind of lilac color.
No Me Queda Mas might just be the most beautiful warm dusty mid-town brown color I own. I recently stopped using my MAC eyeshadows though because I like my Makeup Geek ones better – especially the matte shades (which this No Me Queda Mas is as well) weren’t always as good, so I really wanted to give the MAC Matte eyeshadow formula another go to see whether I might like them now.
Because I only had one eyeshadow for you today, I didn’t feel like doing an arm swatch. I decided to do an eye swatch instead! I applied No Me Queda Mas to my entire eyelid, crease and lower lashline area with a MAC 239 flat eyeshadow brush and I blended the edges with my favorite MAC 221 Tapered Blending Brush. I applied Makeup Geek Shimma Shimma (a dupe for MAC Shroom eyeshadow) to my inner corner.
I really liked doing this eye swatch, because you can really see how the product actually works on the skin using actual brushes! My eyelids were quite dry (thanks to the changing weather – it got very cold over the last few days and my skin always gets super dry at that point), so I hope you don’t mind… When I tried this eyeshadow earlier, you weren’t able to see any of the dryness, so it’s just because my skin has been so dry lately.
Pigment wise, this eyeshadow really amazed me. I think the pigmentation and blendability of MAC eyeshadows isn’t very constant, but this one was super easy to apply and to use. I didn’t have to put in much effort for blending, and I didn’t have to build the color a lot to get perfect pigmentation.
No Me Queda Mas is perfect for creating that soft everyday smoky eye look, and I think this has quickly become one of my favorite MAC eyeshadows I’ve ever had.
I also got a lipstick from the MAC Selena Collection. The lipstick I got is Como La Flor, and it comes in a tube with the same purple shade as the eyeshadow. Again, I really love this shade and I think the tube looks amazing.
Como La Flor is described to be a ‘dirty cherry red’ shade, which I think isn’t the perfect description. I think it’s more of a bright red color with a slightly cool coral undertone. Como La Flor has an amplified finish, which means that it has quite a good pigmentation with a creamy finish. For me, Amplified isn’t the perfect finish. I actually like the MAC Satins, Mattes and Retro Mattes a lot better, but I know there are a lot of people that love the Amplified finish.
This is how Como La Flor looks when applied to my lips! If you look closely, the color isn’t 100% perfectly even at all places, but when you look at it from a distance, you won’t be able to tell. However my lips are quite dry as well, you weren’t able to spot any dry flakes, which I really like about this finish. Also, the pigmentation of the lipstick is perfect, so it wasn’t too hard to overdraw my lips a little (I like overdrawing my upper lip a tiny bit to balance out my lips).
The staying power isn’t the best because Amplified is quite a creamy finish. On me, the lipstick lasted 5 hours before I had to do a small touch up. It felt really comfortable on my lips and didn’t dry my lips at all.
This is the full face look I created using the eyeshadow (I took this photo on another day, when I wore some eyeliner (Sigma Line Ace in Legend) and added Annytude Wary Lashes to finish off the eyelook) and the lipstick! Other than that, the main products I used to create this look were the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Soft Brown, the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop and the Urban Decay Beached Bronzer in Sun-Kissed.
The MAC Selena Collection is limited edition. The products are now available at maccosmetics.com and in store.
